John Wishart Bennett

LUMBERTON – John Wishart Bennett, 82, of Lumberton, passed away on April 16, 2014, at Woodhaven Nursing Center in Lumberton.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Floyd Memorial Chapel, Dr. David Elks officiating. Entombment will follow in Meadowbrook Cemetery.

He was born in Robeson County on April 4, 1932, to the late Charlie Bennett and the late Lessie Williamson Bennett. He owned and operated a welding business in Lumberton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Catherine Hinson Bennett; and two sons, Doug Bennett and Tony Bennett.

Mr. Bennett is survived by two sons, Jeff Bennett and wife Karen and Ron Bennett and wife Janet, all of Lumberton; a brother, Gene Bennett of Lumberton; a sister, Vivian Lamb of Las Vegas; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory Inc., 809 E. Fifth St. in Lumberton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., Seventh fl., New York, N.Y., 10001.
