Minnie Allen

TAR HEEL— Minnie Cain Allen, 94, of Tar Heel, died Aug. 28, 2013, after a short illness and a long and happy life.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Purdie's United Methodist Church, the Rev. Al Marshburn officiating. Burial will follow in Allen family cemetary.

Born April 11, 1919, on a farm in the Ammon community of Bladen County, her parents were Lorenzo and Ethel Cain. The youngest of eight children, her father died while she was a baby. Her oldest sister Ruth helped raise her. She married J.E. Allen of Tar Heel in 1937 after graduating from White Oak School. They had four children, owned and operated Allen's Tar Heel Oil Company and later Allen's Tire Service. J.E. died in 1995; they were married nearly 58 years. In later years she enjoyed her summer garden and feeding birds. She dearly loved her family, Purdie's Church and Tar Heel. Minnie wanted her family, church and town to do well.

She is survived by her sons, James Edward aka Beamie Allen and Joe and wife Wanda Allen; her daughters, Ethel and husband Daniel Vogel and Faye and husband Bill Weeber; her grandchildren, Joe Allen Jr., Samuel Allen, Lindsey Weeber and William Weeber; and her great-grandchildren are Olivia and Violet Allen.

The visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Purdie's United Methodist Church, 11567 N.C., 87 North, Tar Heel, N.C., 28392

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Purdie's United Methodist Church or Southeastern Hospice House, 1100 Pine Run Drive, Lumberton, N.C., 28358.
