SCOTT COLONEL WITTEN

FAYETTEVILLE — Scott Colonel Witten, 51, of Laurinburg, formerly of Fayetteville, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, in Lumberton.

Scott was born in Norfolk, Va., to Dr. Colonel Witten and Mildred Witten, an Air Force family. Scott had a powerful intellect and formidable writing skills manifested in his journalistic journey through life. He was the editor of the Douglas Byrd High School paper and year book as a senior, and moved on to receive a bachelor's degree in Journalism from Pembroke State, now The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. He worked continuously for The Robesonian and Laurinburg Exchange newspapers as a reporter and managing editor from 1988 until his untimely death. He was deeply loved by his coworkers, administrators and all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Mildred Witten. He was survived by his father, Dr. Colonel Vaughan Witten; his brother, Brian Witten of Los Angeles; and aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He will be greatly missed by all.

The funeral services will be graveside at Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville at noon Friday. Religious services will be by Rev. Rebecca Jones. The visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to noon at the cemetery.
