Virginia Carter

PEMBROKE — Mrs. Virginia D. Carter, 81, of Pembroke, departed this life on Feb. 21, 2014.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at New Hope Church, brother Bobby Earl Locklear and brother Wolfheally Bullard officiating. Burial will follow in the Saint Anna Church Cemetery.

Born Jan. 27, 1933, a daughter of the late Harlen and Ethel Lloyd Dial.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Beelar "Bill" Britton Carter; three brothers, Mr. Vernon Dial, Mr. Ladeau Sampson (Jane) and Mr. Ernest Dial (Betty); a special aunt and uncle, Willis and Georgianna Dial and Cousin, Swan "Granny" Dial.

Mrs. Carter is survived by three sons, Mr. Anthony Dial (Freta), Mr. Harlon Carter and Mr. Harold Harris (Phoebe); four daughters, Mrs. Melody Allen (Willie), Ms. Virginia C. Carter, Ms. Trisha Carter and Mrs. Marsha Carter-Bullard (Mitchell); 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five special cousins, Talmadge Dial, Tommie Dial, Anna Locklear, Faye L. Smith, Lynn Locklear and Ted Locklear; and a host of relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends today at 615 Old Landing Road in Maxton, and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Locklear and Son Funeral Home.
