Virginia Coleman

MAXTON — Virginia Dunn "Susie" Coleman, 94, of Maxton, died March 13, 2014.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church, the Rev. Carl Redding officiating.

She is survived by her sons, Steve Coleman (Edna) of Jamestown, and Don Coleman Jr. (Fran) of Fayetteville; her daughter, Betty Kay Shelton of Maxton; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughters, Barbara Kinlaw and Deborah Coleman.

Born Sept. 24, 1919, in Robeson County, she was a daughter of the late David E. Dunn Sr. and Kathleen Davis Dunn and widow of the late Donald VanCott Coleman Sr.

A lady with many passions, Susie loved her children, her church, and was the biggest fan of the UNC Tar Heels. For over 50 years she nursed and cared for her late daughter, Deborah.

A passionate pianist, she and Rachel Thompson visited several retirement communities where she played the piano and Rachel sang. She was also active in the Good Samaritans Club.

The visitation will precede the service in the church fellowship hall beginning at 2 p.m.
