Madeline Garner

HERTFORD — Madeline Rhodes Shaw Garner, 93, of Hertford, formerly of Lumberton, passed away on June 17, 2014, at the Brian Center in Hertford.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Floyd Memorial Chapel, Dr. David Elks and the Rev. Joe Bounds officiating. Burial will follow the service in Meadowbrook Cemetery.

She was born in Onslow County on Sept. 11, 1920, to the late Guy and Rosemond Sanderson Rhodes. She previously worked as the Robeson County deputy register of Deeds.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband and father of her children, Stephen J. Shaw Sr.; her husband, Kenneth Garner; and a brother, Cecil Rhodes.

Mrs. Garner is survived by her son, Stephen J. Shaw Jr. of Littleton; a daughter, Rose Ann Riddick and husband Tommy of Belvidere; a sister, Avis Hall from Angier; a grandson, Lindsey Riddick Jr. and wife Francine; a great-grandson, T.L. Riddick III; and a great-granddaughter, Loryn Wallace Riddick.

The visitation will be before the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory Inc., 809 E. Fifth St. in Lumberton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lumberton First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 938, Lumberton, N.C., 28359.
