LAURINBURG — Clyde Hall Willoughby, 81, of Laurinburg, passed away following a long and courageous battle with cancer on Oct. 4, 2013.
The funeral was held on Oct. 7, 2013, at the First Baptist Church of Laurinburg, the Rev. C.F. McDowell officiated. Committal follow the service at Hillside Memorial Park.
Clyde was born Jan. 21, 1932, in Lumberton, N.C., son of the late Clegg H. and Lydia P. Willoughby. He was the devoted husband of 52 years to the late Dawn Rau Willoughby. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the Sons of the Confederates. He retired from Southern Bell after 37 years of service and later retired from the Scotland County Sheriff's Department. He served as a member of the First Baptist Church of Laurinburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two sisters, Maizelle Davis and Eva Mae Willoughby.
Surviving are his children a daughter, Patricia W. Nelson and husband Jimmy of Smithfield; his son, Michell Lee Willoughby of Rockingham; a brother, Evander "Vann" H. Willoughby of Snow Hill; three grandchildren, Christopher Willoughby of Laurel Hill, Matthew Nelson of Smithfield, and Vallie Willoughby of Middleburg, Fla.; four great=grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
The visitation was held on Oct. 7, 2013, at the First Baptist Church.
