Charlene Leo Cox

Charlene Leo Cox, age 66 of 2773 London Lane, Winston-Salem, N.C., died suddenly at Morehead Memorial Hospital, Eden, N.C., Saturday evening, June 23, 2012. Charlene was born on May 28, 1946 in Danville, Va., a daughter of the late Frank L. Cox, Sr. and the late Hazel Scearce Cox. She had lived her earlier life in Danville and the last forty two years in Winston-Salem where she was retired from the City Of Winston-Salem. She was of the baptist faith. Charlene enjoyed life to the fullest which included fishing, golf and her many friends. Ms. Cox is survived by her life partner, Julie Whichard of the residence, three sisters, Phyliss C. Ponce and husband, Joe of Dale City, Va., Faye C. Knowles of Danville, Va., Tammy C. Nales and husband, Mark of Pelham, N.C., one brother, Frank "Frankie" Cox, Jr. and wife, Patsy of Danville, Va. And a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her twin sister Darlene Hazel Cox. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 am. Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Reverend Kenneth Barnes officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, June 27, 2012 one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am and other times at their respectful residences. The family request in lieu of flowers, donations to be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, Va. 22311.
