Ernest James Denty "Ernie," was born and raised in Oakland, CA prior to enlisting in the United States Army
in 1946. He was stationed in Germany where he met his first true love, Lydia "Lilly" Stemmer. Ernie and Lilly had three children and moved to Rocky Mount after 20 years of military service. Ernie worked for Rocky Mount Wastewater Treatment Plant, Tri-County Industries, and Nash-Edgecombe Mental Health. Ernie later married his second wife, Mary Schaefer, in 1990.
Ernie will always be loved for his vivacious spirit, jovial manner, and zest for life.
Ernie is preceded in death by his three sisters, four brothers, loving wives, and son Walter Michael Denty. Ernie will truly be missed by his sister Helen Pierce of California, daughter Alice Denty Jackson, son Edward Allen Denty, daughters-in-law Ann and Phyllis Denty, and his four grandchildren Christie Jackson, Rusty Jackson, Brandon Jackson, and Nicholas Denty.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00, with funeral services being held at 3:00, at Johnson Funeral Home. The interment will be held directly following at Rocky Mount Memorial Park with full military honors.
