Harvey Franklin "Frankie" Long, Sr., age 68, passed away on March 21, 2014. He was born in Oxford in Granville County, North Carolina, to the late Harvey W. and Stacy Long. After living in Burlington, NC, he moved to Rocky Mount, NC, where he was employed for twenty years at Phillips Fibers/American Fibers and Yarn.
Frankie was a decorated Vietnam Veteran earning the purple heart
and code of conduct medals for his heroic service to his country.
He was predeceased by his parents, Harvey W. and Stacy Long; and one brother and sister-in-law, Larry S. and Brenda Long.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty-eight years, Lois Manning Long; two sons, Joey Shannon Long and wife, Betty Jo Lancaster Long, and Harvey F. Long, Jr.; one special son, Bradley Nicholas Torres of whom he was guardian; two grandsons, Joey S. Long, Jr., and Noah R. Long; two sisters, Sylvia and husband, Rev. W. T. Mallison, and Nancy Long Bailey; one brother, LaVern and wife, Kim Long, and many other loving family members.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, March 23, 2014, at 3:00 PM, in the chapel of Johnson Funerals and Cremations. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation will preceed the service at 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
