Jim Sabiston

Jim Sabiston, 66, passed away, Saturday, September 21, 2013. Jim was born January 24, 1947 in Onslow County to the late Jim Kinsey and Sallie Hudson Sabiston.
Jim Sabistonwas a successful executive with over 35 years experience in the foodservice industry. Jim was the Executive Vice President of MBM Corporation in Rocky Mount, N.C., Executive Officer of Great American Equity Corporation, also headquartered in Rocky Mount, N.C.; Jim was on the Board of Directors for Providence Bank, headquartered in Rocky Mount N.C.
Jimwas deeply involved in many charitable organizations as well as political and community organizations. Heserved in a variety of leadership roles including President of Big Brothers Big Sisters and Communities in Schools. Jim served on the Nash Community College Foundation Board of Trustees in 2009/2010. He was appointed to the Nash Community College Board of Trustees in 2009. He served on the Board of Directors for Duke Children's Hospital. Jim's commitment and community dedication were evidenced by the time and energy he contributed and a testament to his passion for effecting positive change.
Jim was actively involved in Duke University Athletics.
Jim attended East Carolina University. He served in the Army including a tour in Vietnam and attended Englewood Baptist Church.
Jim leaves behind his loving wife Susan Wood Sabiston, two daughters Christina and Kristen and two grandchildren, Christianna and Michaela. In addition to his wife and daughters, he leaves to cherish his memory, Aunt Alberta Creagh and husband, John W., Aunt Julianne Hudson; and a large extended family of cousins to which he was devoted. Special thanks go to his caregiver, Cassandra Graham.
Funeral service will be Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Englewood Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Cloer officiating. Visitation will follow after the service.
