Robert Teele Rawls Jr.

Robert Teele Rawls, Jr., 87, died Friday May 2, 2014. He was born August 9, 1926 in Nash County son of the late Robert Teele, Sr. and Hazel Fountain Rawls. Teele was employed by Texilease Corp. retiring after many years of service with them. He was a member of West Edgecombe Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and for years as an usher. He was very proud to serve his Lord in any capacity. He was a member of the "Young at Heart" group at West Edgecombe and men's Sunday school class. Teele worked with Meals on Wheels, and the Homebound group at the Church. He was a very proud member of the Rocky Mount Luncheon Lions and a member of VFW Post 2058 in Rocky Mount. He was also a member of the state council fraternal order United American Mechanics, Scotland Neck, NC. In all of these capacities he served with great zeal, love loyalty and pride. Teele served his country in the U S Navy during World War II. He was proud to wear the uniform of a U S Serviceman! In tribute he always flew the American Flag in honor of all those who served and are now in the U S military forces.
His first marriage was to Virginia Lucas of Castalia who died December 13, 1972. This marriage produced two children, a son, Robert Teele Rawls, III and a daughter, Cheri Donahue Rawls Lucas who survive. Other survivors are Sherry Moore Rawls, daughter in law, and Ray Lucas, Son in law; grandchildren, Robert Teele Rawls, IV, and Jessica Dawn Webb Peaden and husband Mike and a great grandson William Peaden; sister, Hazel Rawls Carr of West Palm Beach, FL, brother Bill Fitzhugh Rawls and wife Jean of Greenville, SC and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews of whom he was very proud.
He married Susan (Susie) Killebrew Rawls February 4, 1974, who also survives.
Funeral service will be held at West Edgecombe Baptist Church on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 3:00 PM with the Rev. Harry Kahn and Rev. Alan Mills officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the service
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Rocky Mount Luncheon Lions Club, West Edgecombe Baptist Church for a in his honor.
