Charles Wesley Fisher, Jr., 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 10, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Edgecombe County to Charles Wesley Fisher, Sr. and Ada Woodruff Fisher on July 15, 1933. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Mary Dorothy Fisher (infant) and Alma Jane Fisher Henderson.
After graduating from Tarboro High School, Charles joined the United States Air Force for four years. Upon completion of his active military service, Charles began his employment with Carolina Telephone Company. Charles temporarily left the telephone company to attend college. Upon graduating from Atlantic Christian College (Barton) in 1962, Charles returned to his telephone company career until his retirement from Sprint in 1994. His last 25 years with the telephone company were spent in the Human Resources department.
Charles was a committed Rotarian for 40 years. He served as president of the Fayetteville Rotary Club in 1976 – 1977. Charles was the charter president of the Nash – Rocky Mount Rotary Club in 1986 – 1987. He served on numerous local and district committees during his years of Rotary membership. Charles was a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and Rotary Foundation Benefactor.
Charles was also a very active member of First Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. He served on various committees, was a deacon and board chairman, as well as a Sunday School department director. He developed the video and television ministry that has now become a part of First Baptist Church outreach to the church and surrounding community.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Barbara Lancaster Fisher, son Charles Wesley Fisher III and wife Susan English Fisher of Myrtle Beach, SC, and daughter Kathryn Fisher Edwards and husband James William (Bill) Edwards of Florence, SC. Four loving grandchildren also survive him: Lindsey Fisher, C. Wesley Fisher IV, Allison Edwards and Ann Claire Edwards. Remaining also is his brother Lawrence C. Fisher and wife Betty Jo Fisher of Rocky Mount, sister-in-law Carolyn L. Edwards of Nashville, sister-in-law Janice L. Watson and husband Sam Watson of Raleigh, and brother-in-law A. J. Lancaster, Jr. of Castalia. In addition, several nieces and nephews also survive him.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church with Reverend William V. Grisham and Reverend Dennis Darvelle on Monday, May 13, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service and all other times at the home.
In addition to flowers, memorials may be made to the television ministry of First Baptist Church located at 200 S. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804, or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Nash General Hospital, 2460 Curtis Ellis Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
