Richard David Richardson, 65, died peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2013. Born on January 26, 1948, he was a life-long resident of Rocky Mount. He was the son of David Gilles and Mary Helen Williams Richardson of Augusta, Georgia.
He attended East Carolina University where he majored in Business Administration.
Richard served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. During his years of service he was aboard the USS Kitty Hawk working in the Defense Intelligence.
Later, he worked in Defense Intelligence at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
He was Senior Vice President of UAI Technology for twenty years. Previously, he was assistant treasurer at Hardee's Food Systems for twenty years.
Richard was a charter member, past president, and board member of the North Carolina Treasury Management Association. He was a member of the Federal Reserve Industry Advisory Group. Richard was on the faculty of the Berkeley Cash Management Program at the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley and the NYU Cash Management Program at the Stern School of Business at New York University in New York. He was a speaker on issues of cash and treasury management at seminars, conferences, and national meetings.
Richard was a life-time member of First Presbyterian Church where he had served as a Deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Jane Herring Richardson, their son, John Thomas Richardson of Raleigh, NC; their daughter, Elizabeth Anne Richardson Cahoon and her husband, Jodie, of Raleigh, NC; and his brother, Ronald John Richardson.
A graveside service will be conducted by the Reverend Peter Bynum at Rocky Mount
Memorial Park on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 11:00am. Visitation will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Outreach Division of First Presbyterian Church, 153 N. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27802.
