Virginia Hull Dew, age 85, died peacefully on August 21, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was born September 4, 1927 in Nash County. Heaven is definitely a sweeter place today because Virginia has gone to be with her Lord and Savior.
The Guest Book is expired.
A precious, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, her family was always Virginia's pride and joy, and she cherished every moment she spent with them. Home in Rocky Mount has always been a special place for Virginia's family, whether needed to talk through a problem or share a success. With Virginia at the center, her family navigated life's staircase together. Their family gatherings were always full of love and laughter.
Even in her last months that brought physical and communication challenges, Virginia was always pleasant and never complained. She always said, "I'm fine." Throughout her life, she was always selfless and focused on taking the best care possible of everyone around her. An expert gardener, she could make anything grow beautifully. And there's not a better cook around, always working without a recipe or measurements. She enjoyed reading and worshipping with her Circle group at church.
Virginia was a member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1958. She was a part of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 205 and a charter member of the Down East Luncheon Ruritan Club. Before her health degraded, she was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross, the Ronald McDonald House, and at various local nursing homes.
Loved ones welcoming her to her Heavenly Home are her husband of 52 years Lee Dew, Jr.; her sons Rickie Lane Dew and Robbie Lane Dew; her parents Geneva and Dallas Hull; and her brothers Roger Hull and Joe Hull.
Virginia is survived by her son Spencer L. Dew (Vickie) of Rocky Mount, daughter Sharon D. Outlaw (Wayne) of Rocky Mount, daughter Brenda D. Measamer (Bill) of Raleigh, son Johnny A. Dew of Bunn, and daughter Buffie D. Rodri (Christy) of Raleigh; grandchildren Laura Brickhouse (Adrian), Julie Privott (Wade), Mindi Collins (Bard), Adam Dew (Megan), Joe Rodri, Ciara Dew, and Jason Rodri; great grandchildren Gabby Brickhouse, Spencer Brickhouse, Wes Privott, Bayden Collins, Reagan Privott, Evan Dew, and Collin Dew; brother Grover Hull of Nashville; and sisters-in-law Helen Hux of Tarboro and Sylvia Hull of Salem.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 24, at 2:00 pm at Johnson Funeral Home (661 English Road) in Rocky Mount with Pastor Brandon Dees officiating. The family will receive friends preceding the service at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. There will be a private graveside service for immediate family members at the Greenwood Cemetery in Tarboro following the service. Memorial donations can be sent in her name to Duke Children's Hospital (care of Dr. John Foreman); Duke University Medical Center 3959; Durham, NC 27710.
