Elsa Hedgepeth Dennis, 84, of Rocky Mount, passed away on Tuesday August 12, 2014. She was born in Rocky Mount , September 21, 1929, a daughter of the late Lonnie Moore Hedgepeth Sr. and Grace Meadows Hedgepeth.

She was also predeceased by her loving husband Robert Kay Dennis Jr, her brother, Lonnie Hedgepeth Jr (Corinna), and a sister Bernice Croteau (LJ).
Elsa was a housewife and she had been a well-loved school crossing guard at Gorham Elementary and Fairview Elementary Schools. She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Rocky Mount. She, along with her husband Bobby, served in the church choir for more than 25 years, he as choir director, and she as lead soprano. Much beautiful music was made in the church, but nothing can compare to the songs she and Daddy are now singing together in Heaven. She loved her family and friends unconditionally as they also loved her, and she will be remembered for her sweet, gentle spirit. She brought so much joy to others and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her sons, Tony Dennis (Jane) and Lonnie Dennis, all of Rocky Mount; her daughter, Laura Poore (Jason) of Winston-Salem; her sister, Joyce Howell of Greensboro NC; her grandchildren, Kristie Kane (Bill) and Jennifer Corder (Wes) all of Wilmington NC, Jill Bennett (Mike) of Lexington NC, Steven Timmons (Mimi) of Winterville NC, and Lonnie Dennis II of Raleigh NC;; her great-grandchildren, Logan Bennett, Airlie Corder, and Curren Corder, and several nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive relatives and friends Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Johnson Funerals and Cremation, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount. A celebration of Elsa's life will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
