Katharina Karoly Gawf
ROCKY MOUNT - Katharina Karoly Gawf "Katie" 87 passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 surrounded by family.
The daughter of Johann Karoly and Anna Kiszler, Katharina was in born in Bonyhad, Hungary. As a young teenager her family moved to Germany, settling in the town of Niedermittlau. She met her husband Dorman L Gawf, an American Army soldier, who was stationed in the nearby town of Hanau, Germany. They married on June 12, 1953 in Germany. Shortly after their marriage, Katharina made the trip from Germany to Kansas City, Missouri to start her married life with husband Dorman and newborn son John. In Kansas City, she had two more children Roy and Barbara, living and working there most of her adult life. She moved to Rocky Mount, NC with her husband Dorman late in life to be closer to family.
She is preceded in death by her son Roy Gawf and brother Hans Karoly. She is survived by her husband Dorman Gawf, son John Gawf and wife Bonnie Puett, daughter Barbara Gawf and husband Gary Sloat, grandson David Gawf, grandaughter Jordan "Jodi" Gawf and husband Steve Bremer, great grandchildren Ethan, Matthew, Silas and Eleanor Bremer, and sister Maria Meindorfer.
Special thanks to the staff at Nash General Hospital Critical Care Unit for the compassionate care they provided to Katharina, along with friends and church members at Southside Baptist Church for their many prayers.
Visitation will be Friday, September 14, 2018 at 6:00 pm with funeral services at 7:00 pm, both at Cornerstone Funeral Home in Nashville, NC. A graveside service and burial will be at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Katharina's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
