Steven Edward Luper Sr., 74, of Rocky Mount, passed away Friday February 8, 2013 at Nash General Hospital. Steve was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He was born June 9, 1938 in Nash County to the late Richard Edward Luper and Marion Barkley Luper.
Steve served in the 82 nd Airborne Division of the Army. During his life, he operated many businesses including Luper Welding, Luper Hardware, Steve`s Bicycle Shop, and Luper Gas.
Steve is survived by his wife, Eva Buck Luper; sons, Steve Luper Jr. of Rocky Mount and daughter-in-law, Connie of Nashville; Joseph Luper and wife Carla of Nashville; Patrick Luper and wife Meredith of Nashville; daughter, Gay Luper; grandchildren, Steven and his wife, Megan and their daughter, Riley of Rocky Mount, Cameron, Austin, Carter, Will, and Reed, all of Nashville. He is also survived by his brother, Roger Luper and wife Patricia of Salem; sisters, Janet Gurganus and husband Ed of Rocky Mount, Carol Barnhill and husband Mike of Rocky Mount, Norma Stockhowe and husband George of Chesapeake, Va., Donna Collins and husband Mark of Chesterfield, Va., and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service to celebrate Steve`s life will be held on Monday February 11, 2013 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Cornerstone Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert R. Boone Jr.officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the American Red Cross 326, S. Franklin St. Rocky Mount, NC 27803 in Steve`s honor.
The family would like to thank the staff of Nash Health Care Systems Critical Care Unit for their concern and hard work during Steve`s stay.
