Ethel Leigh Moore Ray died peacefully on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Hunter Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation in Rocky Mount NC. Born in Edgecombe County on May 2, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie Polk Moore and Matilda Hughes Moore. She was also predeceased by her husband, William Otfel Ray; half-brothers, Jerry, Jimmy and Billy Perry; sister, Helen Shorb; half-sister, Lois; and son-in-law, Walter E. Judkins.

Ethel was a very independent lady who was involved in several organizations such as Brownie Scout leader and member of the Ladies Society of Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers, Pine Needle Lodge #551. She was a talented seamstress, great cook and enjoyed being with the family. Ethel was a past member of Clark Street Methodist Church and Edgemont Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by daughters, Dianne Judkins of Nashville and Betty Jo Ray Apol and husband Steve of Rocky Mount; granddaughter, Cynthia Amaya Reis of Austin TX; and great-grandchildren, Erica Currey and husband Matt of Champagne IL and Shelby Rae Reis of Austin TX.
A graveside service to remember Ethel will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Pineview Cemetery with Pastor Tom Watkins of First Presbyterian Church of Wilson officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service. The family will also receive visitors at the home of Betty Jo and Steve Apol, 4978 Country Lane, Rocky Mount NC.
