ROCKY MOUNT - Frederick "Fred" Armstrong Joyner, age 87, went home to heaven on Friday, August 8, 2014. Born in Edgecombe County on October 18, 1926, he was the son of the late Arthur Charles Joyner and Ethel Dixon Joyner. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Fannie Mae Roebuck Joyner and his son, Randy Wynn Joyner.
He leaves behind three sons; Frederick Gilbert Joyner and his wife, Susan of Wilmington, Albert Eugene Joyner and his wife, Barbara of Rocky Mount and Stewart Armstrong Joyner and his wife, Gale of Rocky Mount. He will also be remembered by his sister, Hilda J. Davidson, and brother, Alvin Wesley Joyner. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Chadwick Armstrong Joyner and his wife Layla, Frederick Matthew Joyner and his wife Tracey, Robert Andrew Joyner, Caroline Michelle Joyner, Jennifer Mae Marks and her husband Seth, Taylor Brooke Joyner, Wesley Stewart Joyner, Derek Luke Joyner and his great grandchildren, Alston Joyner, Wyatt Joyner, and Rylee Mae Marks.
Fred proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II after which he returned and was a Dry Goods salesman until his retirement. For many years, Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of Billy's Gun Club, Indian Woods, NC for 51 years. Fred was accomplished at woodworking as was his older brother Harold and their Daddy Arthur. He built fine furniture for his home and for many family members and friends. He could build anything a person would want out of wood.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Davidson officiating accompanied by Sue Brinkley, soloist. The family will receive friends and relatives starting at 1:00pm until time of services at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the .
