HIGH POINT - Kay Finch Patseavouras, 79, a resident of High Point passed away Friday, August 8th in her home.
Kay was born September 29, 1934 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, a daughter to the late Hugh Gordon and Mary Fitts Finch. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her younger brother, Hugh Manley Finch and her grandson John Braxton Andrews.
She attended Greensboro College for Women and UNC at Chapel Hill. Her children were reared in High Point and were members of Emerywood Baptist Church where Kay served on the Board of Deacons and taught Sunday school.
She became very active in politics moving to Raleigh for two years serving as the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Department of Transportation, Jacob Alexander under Governor James Holshouser. At the end of his term she was awarded the State's highest civilian award, "The Long Leaf Pine".
Kay later served as the only woman on Governor Jim Martin's "kitchen cabinet" which was a group of his most valued advisors.
She was elected Register of Deeds of Guilford County for several terms.
She thrived on meeting people and standing up for good causes. She embraced everyone with love and trust. Mom was our inspiration every day.
Her selfless love for her family was apparent in the way she talked about her children, grandchildren and her dog Bodie.
She loved the beach at the Outer Banks. Always ready to put her feet in the ocean, read her books and marvel at the waves.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Finch Patseavouras, and her family, Jonathan and Melissa Elleman, Daniel and Mary Eleanor Patseavouras and their son, Dillon; her daughter Kathryn Giles and her husband, Stephen and their children, Caroline and Lauren; her daughter Kristina Andrews and her children Kathryn and Noel; her furry companion, Bodie and her extended family Dr. and Mrs. Louie Patseavouras and their children.
