GREENVILLE - Linda Collins Burnette, age 92, affectionately known as "Granny", passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014
A graveside funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 10 am at Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount.
Mrs. Burnette, daughter of the late Cal and Katie Collins, was a native of Nash County and a graduate of Benvenue High School. A resident of Greenville since 1958, she was employed with Belk-Tyler's, retiring after 20 years of service. She had been active with the Salvation Army Auxiliary, the Golden K Jewels Kiwanis Club, the Exxon Annuitants Club and the Meals on Wheels program. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Granny thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she supported them by attending their sporting events. An avid bridge player, she also enjoyed watching Atlanta Braves baseball and Carolina basketball.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R. G. (Chubby) Burnette; brothers, Richard (Dick) Collins and Marvin Collins; and sisters, Mary Parker, Cleo (Sis) Christopher and Georgia Lee Hines.
She is survived by daughter, Brenda B. Whichard and husband, Tommy, of Greenville; son, J. C. Burnette and wife, Janice, of Chocowinity; grandchildren, Marty Whichard and wife, Shannon, Jill Whichard Cole and husband, Barnes, and Justin Burnette and fianc_e, Jenna Floyd; and great-grandchildren, Grant and Reese Whichard and Kate Cole.
The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Greenville.
