At age 59, she resumed a nursing career at Wake Memorial Hospital, working until retiring at age 69.
Upon moving to Knightdale in 1989, she continued as always ready to pitch in where there was work to be done, volunteering with Meals on Wheels and dipping thousands of containers of chili for Loaves and Fishes fundraisers. Not one to seek the limelight, she was ever ready to lend her hands in support family and causes for which she cared.
