TARBORO - Deacon Robert Woodrow Johnson, 65, son of the late Pete Johnson and Ernestine Eason Johnson, was born March 16, 1945 in Tarboro, N.C. He passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010.
Deacon Johnson graduated from G.W. Carver High School in the class of 1963. Shortly thereafter from 1965 to 1969, he served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army.
He was a distinguished graduated of North Carolina Central University and Shaw University with a degree in Business Administration and Wilson Technical Institute with a degree in Electronics. He retired as senior network engineer with Sprint Telecommunications after thirty years of service.
He was a member of the Eastern Star Missionary Baptist Church, where he served faithfully under multiple auxiliaries.
He married his childhood sweetheart in 1966 and to this union three sons were born. HE was an awesome man!
Deacon Johnson leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 44 years, Dr. Evelyn Joyner Johnson of the home, three sons, LeMonte Johnson of Enfield, N.C., Rodney Johnson of Lawrenceville, Ga. and Dr. Bryan Johnson of Camden, N.J., mother, Ernestine Johnson of Tarboro, N.C., ten sisters, Patricia Savage of Harlem, N.Y., Vernestine Bynum, Betty Johnson, Yvonne Howell and Carolyn Knight, all of Tarboro, N.C., Brenda Pierce of Greenville, N.C., Constance Powell of Tarboro, N.C., Joyce Johnson of Fredericksburg, Va., Selita Brumfield of Harrison, Tenn. and Sherry Johnson of Tarboro, five brothers, Billy Johnson of Pinetops, N.C., Pete Johnson of Tarboro, N.C., Kelly Johnson, Kenneth Johnson and Derek Johnson of Rocky Mount, N.C., and one grandson, Jaleen Johnson and a host of other nieces, nephew, relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held from 2 to 6:00 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 15, 2010 at the funeral home, with a wake at the Eastern Star Missionary Baptist Church in Tarboro, N.C., from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
We will celebrate his life on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, with the Reverend Kelley Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Cemetery.
