Mr. Charles Lewis Woods, Jr., known to one and all as "Chuck", slept peacefully into eternal rest on April 14, 2012 in Peoria, Illinois.
Chuck was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on July 29, 1947 to the late Charles Lewis Woods, Sr. and Nonie Cheek Woods. The family moved to Rocky Mount, North Carolina and Chuck attended Rocky Mount City Schools. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1965 and later enrolled at A & T College in Greensboro, North Carolina. His education at A & T was put on hold when he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country as an air traffic controller. After Chuck was honorably discharged, he returned to A & T, received a Bachelor of Science Degree in accounting in 1975, and immediately accepted a job at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria Illinois as an accountant. While in Peoria, Chuck became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., he became a shriner and he joined the local Elks Lodge. He was an active member of the organizations to which he belonged and made life-long friends.
Chuck returned to North Carolina in 1986 and worked as an accountant for companies in Eden, North Carolina. He returned to Rocky Mount and worked as a teacher's assistant for the public schools, an accountant, and a computer technician. After he retired, he decided to open Woods Accounting and Tax Service where he worked until his death.
Chuck leaves to cherish his memory, Vannette Pittman Woods, his loving wife of 42 years; a daughter, Tracie Albea, son in law and best buddy Victor of Newport News, Va., a son Charles E-A Woods and Donna of Rocky Mount, NC; two granddaughters, TyDasha Woods of Rocky Mount, NC; Ciara Woods of Charlotte, NC; two grandsons, Victor Aaron and Harrison Romaine Albea of Newport News, VA; four brothers, Kennon A. Woods and wife Tanya of Raleigh, NC; Michael B. Woods(Marion)of Moorestown,NJ; Tommy Bennett of Washington, DC; and Frederick Woods(Cynthia) of Mount Laurel,NJ; two aunts, Marion Jackson of Chapel Hill, NC and Nora Woods of Charlotte, NC; two special ladies, Beverly Smith and Terri Coleman, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends.
Funeral services will be at noon Friday, April 20, 2012 at St. James Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Garden of Gethsemane. Viewing/Visitation this evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at St. James Baptist Church. Arrangements by Stokes Mortuary, Inc., 207 Albermarle Ave., Rocky Mount, N.C.
