Gregory (Greg) Ralph Speed

A much loved father, grandfather, brother, son, nephew, cousin, and friend, Greg Speed, 61, passed away August 15, 2013 in Sacramento , Calif. Greg was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He graduated from Menlo-Atherton High School, class of 1970. Greg held many jobs in his lifetime, amongst them Gold Country Subaru of Auburn. He was owner of a neighborhood bar first in Sacramento, then in Reno. Greg is survived by many loving family members which include his son Lance, wife Heather of Kuna, Idaho, their four children, Tallea, Tannar, Tristan, Trinity; daughter Jennifer, her two children; Dakota, Tyler of Nampa, Idaho, son Paul, his wife Bettina of Marietta, Calif., their two children; Lily, Riley; son Marc of Copperopolis, Calif., son Sean of Copperopolis, Calif. brother Richard (Rick), wife Valerie of Seattle, Wash., brother Kenneth (Ken) , wife Eileen of Chico, Calif.; sister Kimberly Victor, husband Darrell of Oakley, Calif.; Loving stepmother Donna Speed of Auburn, Calif.; step-brother Walter (Walt) Gess, wife Christine of Oroville, Calif.; step-sister Jeanne Gess of Redwood City, Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who love him. The family would also like to acknowledge and thank Greg's long time friend Matt Kelly of Auburn, for all that he has done. Greg is predeceased by both parents; Loretta (Lori) and Richard (Dick) Speed who died in 1975 and 2000 respectively. His brother Ken said "Greg had a huge heart, an infectious grin, and was always willing to help anyone he could". Sister Kimberly said; "My big brother Greg was always around to offer a helping hand in just about any situation. If he was unable to personally help, he had plenty of friends that would fill in for him. Growing up I could always count on him." Greg's son Lance said; "I will miss Dad's charismatic smile and positive way he lived life. Dad, enjoy your rest". Stepmother Donna said; "I will miss my calls. I am so lucky to have had Greg in my life for 37 years."
A memorial service in celebration of Greg's life will be held at a later date. Donations are welcome in Greg's name to Loaves and Fishes (Sacramento) at www.SacLoaves.com or by check to: Loaves & Fishes, 1321 North C St. Sacramento, Calif. Mention: Greg Speed Memorial.
