Richard B. "Dick" Carter
8/9/1925-8/25/2018
Richard Carter of Auburn, Calif. passed away at home with his family at his side.
Richard was born in Seattle, Washington to Bart and Mary Carter. Most of his childhood was spent following his father and mother or living with his Grandmother in Port Town- send, Wash. while his father worked as an engineer building the Bonneville Dam and later in California on the Golden Gate Bridge project. The family settled in Livermore, California where Richard completed his high school education. Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Europe during WWII. After returning from the war, he met and married Evelyn Nunn in Livermore. He remained married and devoted to his "bride" for nearly 70 years.
Richard worked for many years for Kaiser Engineers and other heavy construction companies before settling in Auburn, Calif. There he began a long career as a systems engineer for Placer County Water Agency, until his retirement in 1989.
Richard was an avid golfer and a member of the Cornerstone Church, where he will be remembered as a "door greeter" on Sundays. A proud lifelong member of the California Free Masons (Masonic Lodge), he was humble, kind, loving and generous. Richard enjoyed his fellowship with his church and showed his love of God and family. He will be truly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; sons Greg Carter and wife Susie of Florence, Mont. and Scott Carter and wife Judy of Loomis, Calif.; grandchildren Kasey Carter of Seattle and Kyle Cater of San Diego; and great granddaughter Nayella George of Seattle, Wash.

Richard and Evelyn were two of my favorite people from church. I would organize birthday parties every 3 months and we would celebrate the birthdays for those months. They both loved to come which I enjoyed. Then when Evelyn could not get out anymore I would go visit them at the house. It was always a pleasure to be with them. They were so devoted to one another! I went to see Richard on his birthday 8/9/18. That is when I found out he had just had surgery and was at Auburn Oaks. So I visited him there. All he could talk about was that he was worried about his bride. So touching! That was the last time I saw him. I will miss him very much!
I am very disappointed that I will be out of town in Colorado when you are having the Memorial Service for Richard. I would so love to be there! I've been a member of Cornerstone for over 30 years! So I knew Richard a very long time. It has been a privilege to call him a friend. I am so glad that I will see him again when I get to go to heaven too.
My heart goes out to Evelyn and the whole family! You were all very fortunate to have him as a husband, dad, and grandfather. I know you will miss him greatly. My prayers are with you.
In Christ's love,

Psalms 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years. May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.
