Judith Campbell Obituary

Judith J. (Hames)
Campbell
3/28/2013

Judith J. (Hames) Campbell, 69, died in Denver, Colo., on March 28, 2013 following an 18 month old battle with mantle cell lymphoma.
A memorial service will be held in Lincoln in the Fall of 2013.
Donations can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Judy is survived by her husband of 46 years, Curtis Campbell; their children, Elizabeth Campbell (Jeremy Lockwood) of Sacramento, Sam Campbell (Anna Senecal) of Green River, Wyoming; and her granddaughters, Sadie, age 12, Penelope age five, Beatrix age two; step-children: Paty Marshall-Stace, Cobden, Victoria, Australia; Joe (Beverly) Campbell of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Song Kowbell of Penn Valley, Calif., and John Campbell of Rough and Ready, Calif.; 10 step-grandchildren and 17 step-great-grandchildren. Judy's six siblings survive her: Vera (Bob) Tharp of Rathdrum, Idaho, Harlen (Betty) Hames of Sunnyside, Wash., Alan (Helen) Hames of Milwaukie, Ore., George Hames of Englewood, Colo., Ruth (Byrl) Skovgaard of Billings, Mont., and Robin (Rick) Maurer of Priest River, Idaho.
Judy was born in Billings, Montana in 1943. She graduated from Worland, Wyoming High School in 1961. She attended Anderson College, Indiana, CSUS and graduated from The University of San Francisco in 1995.
Judy retired as the Business Director for the Placer County Office of Education in Auburn, Calf., in 1999. She served 13 years as trustee on the Western Placer School District board. She lived on a small farm near Lincoln for 27 years before retiring to Arizona and Wyoming. She served in many capacities in the Lincoln Little League.
Always busy, she referred to her farm years as the "Little House on the prairie years", raising a large garden, cattle, pigs and kids. In 1967, shortly after they were married, Curt went to Vietnam flying combat missions. Judy took care of his kids ages five to 13. She was a tireless hiker climbing the highest mountain near her homes in Arizona and Wyoming. They climbed Medicine Bow Peak in the Snowy Range six years in a row even after her lymphoma diagnosis in 2011.
Judy will be remembered as an energetic and endlessly patient wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. A brave lady who met every challenge she will not be forgotten by her many friends and co-workers.
Besides the birth of her children, if asked, Judy would say memorable events in her life were the birth of a granddaughter less than two years ago, seeing her attorney daughter argue a case before the U.S Supreme Court which she won 9 to 0, and seeing her son evolve from a bull rider, truck driver, heavy equipment operator to an operating room registered nurse. Having seen all her siblings tested and one donate bone marrow in an attempt to save her life as well as multiple visits from all of them during her treatment were important to Judy.

Not sure what to say?

Tomorrow, 10-28-2013, will mark the seventh month you've been gone and the pain is as strong right now as it was on that awful day. I talk to you every day and I need your presence to stay with me and all the others who loved you and all those that you loved. You were the 90% of "us" and I never will forget that. I love you Baby Girl!

Curt,

My heart aches for you and your family. I am so sorry for your loss, I remember Judy as a wonderful person. You and Judy have always been such a positive influence in so many lives. I will always be thankful for knowing you and Judy.

My Mom and I will always be grateful to you for the great advice you gave us when my Dad was going through his heart surgery back in 2001, those special words helped us stay positive every time that he was in the hospital from that day forward. I can relate to what Sam and Beth are going through at this time and my Mom can relate to what you are experiencing. It's going to be a tough road ahead for all of us. I know I definitely have my moments as will you and your family. I just have to remember how my Dad would want me to be strong and remember all the wonderful memories. We will miss our loved ones forever.

I will always remember Aunt Judy as a woman of quiet strength, self-assurance and moral values - a great role model for how every woman should strive to be but very few acheive. I have been blessed to know her. She will be greatly missed. Brenda Slater

Curt and Family,
Aaron and I were lucky to be counted among Judy's friends. She was the light of our community. She had the prettist smile and shared it with all of us. In all of the years I knew her, I never heard her say a bad word about anyone. There are not many friends I can say that about. We will miss her more than I could ever say. Our nightly fires will never be the same without her. She was so blessed to have the love of a wonderful family, children, grandchildren, siblings, and friends and a man who loved her more than anything in the world. You will be missed Judith J. Curt and Family,
May you find comfort in the many special memories of the time you had with Judy. I have thought about how I had the gift of knowing her - when she cared for my children when we had an emergency and the many office parties we gleefully endured back when Mike and Curt worked at the office. She will be missed but remembered well.
Sincerely,
Dottie Greene
