Johnson, Joan Louise (Lauppe)
Joan Louise (Lauppe) Johnson 8/24/1954 - 1/21/2015 Joan Louise (Lauppe) Johnson passed away peacefully at home in Granite Bay, Calif., on January 21, 2015. She was born August 24, 1954, in Sacramento. Joanie grew up as a farmer's daughter in rural Sacramento where she attended school and enjoyed 4-H with lifelong friends, and where her East Nicolaus HS classmates have always treasured her warm and outgoing personality. After graduating with the class of '72, she went to Chico State University where she earned her degree in business communications. She enjoyed traveling as a commercial lines underwriter for St. Paul and Hartford Insurance, living in Seattle, Salt Lake City and Reno before returning to Sacramento in 1986. While in Reno, Joanie met Doug Johnson, a handsome former Army Ranger who captured her heart! They were married January 10, 1987, in Sacramento. Joanie's true passion was as a mother. She loved being a stay-at-home mom when daughters Jennifer (1991) and Sheralyn (1993) arrived. Joanie became actively involved in the Granite Bay community when the girls began attending school, devoting her time to helping others. She also loved family trips visiting mother-in-law Shirley Johnson and extended family in Hilton Head, S.C. Another of her passions was her Masonic family. Growing up, she was involved in the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. When she became Grand Treasurer of the organization, Joanie spent a year traveling all over California with her Rainbow sisters. At the age of 20 she became a part of the Order of the Eastern Star. These activities blessed her with many lifelong friendships, and led her to become Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls Roseville DeRiemer Assembly. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Kathryn Lauppe (2014). She is survived by her father, Burton Lauppe; her husband, Doug Johnson; and daughters Jennifer and Sheralyn Johnson. She also is survived by her brothers Alan (Debbie) and Warren (Cynthia) Lauppe, and many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Joan's Life will be held at 5:00 pm Friday, January 30, 2015 in the sanctuary at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Granite Bay (6365 Douglas Boulevard). The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Joan's memory to the Fairview Community Christian Church, 1991 Pacific Avenue, Trowbridge, CA 95659, or the CA Order of the Eastern Star (J. C. Lee Cancer Fund), 16960 Bastanchury Road, Suite E, Yorba Linda, CA 92886-1711. Finally, the family expresses their heartfelt thanks to those in the medical community who so unselfishly joined with Joan in her ten year battle with cancer.
