Edna Scott began a new journey on November 12, 2013. She passed quietly and peacefully at her home with family and friends. She was 94.
Born October 7, 1919, in Crumb Creek, Oklahoma; Edna was one of three children born to Charles and Pearl Beagles. She grew up working hard and living simply on a working farm.
Edna married Dalton Johnson on March 22, 1936, in McCurtain County, Oklahoma where they farmed and had a daughter, Earlene. When Dalton was killed in Wold War II, Edna moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where she married Wayne Jones and had two daughters, Wanda and Carolyn. The family moved to California in 1952 where their son, Stephen, was born.
She began her career as a school bus driver for the Grant Union School District. During the Vietnam era, Edna worked at McClellan Air Force Base packaging supplies to be sent overseas. In 1967 she resumed school bus driving with the Rio Linda School District until her retirement.
Edna married Lee Scott in 1970 and they enjoyed traveling in their camper for many years.
After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling the United States, Tahiti and Hawaii with good friends. She traveled to Alaska with her son, daughter-in-law and her daughter-in-law's mother. Edna's last big journey was with her son and daughter-in-law to Colorado and the southwest with the spiritual aura of Chaco Canyon being the highlight of the trip.
Edna moved to Grass Valley in 1999 to be near her son and daughter. She lived happily and quite independently until her passing. She was an avid reader and loved her Kindle Fire. She enjoyed gardening and canning fruits and vegetables to share with family and friends. She was an excellent seamstress and crotched, quilted and embroidered many beautiful pieces that will be cherished by her family. She shared her love for cooking and baking with her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren will always remember baking cookies with Grandma at Christmas. She honored and respected animals. Her little dog, Punkin, was her best friend. She and Punkin walked daily to and from the mailbox for part of their daily exercise.
Edna gave of her time and energy in many ways. Her honesty, integrity, incredible work ethic and concern for animals were passed on to her children and grandchildren. As AnimalSave's oldest volunteer she was responsible for counting and wrapping change collected from AnimalSave coin banks and helped nurse many tiny kittens and puppies.
Edna was a member of The Foxy Ladies with Ann, Jan and Pat. These ladies are the mothers-in-law of their intertwined children. They loved to go to lunch once a month and celebrated their birthdays together.
Edna will be missed by scores of friends, family and her little dog Punkin. She is predeceased by her parents; brothers, Elmer and James Beagles; husbands, Dalton Johnson, Wayne Jones and Lee Scott; daughters: Earlene Fiorillo and Wanda Jones; and granddaughter, Sharon Sullivan. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Niehaus; son, Stephen Jones (Elizabeth); grandchildren: Julianne Martyn, Janette Lawson, Dennis Zvalo and Alex Wolosz; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
An absolutely unparalleled mother, grandmother, friend and guide we will miss her amazing grace and sweet smile. High marks, Mom, on a long life, well-lived.
