Galen D. Reinecke
Long time Auburn, Calif., resident Galen Reinecke passed away April 24, 2014 at the age of 84. He spent his formative years and youth in Loomis, Calif., and like many kids in the area spent his summers working at the local fruit shed packing peaches.
His great-grandfather was a German immigrant miner who settled in the Newcastle, Calif., during the California Gold Rush. Galen graduated from Placer High in 1948, landed a job working for the Railroad, and then married his high school sweetheart Diane Putman in 1950; however, their bucolic life together as Auburn newlyweds was soon interrupted, and just months after their marriage Galen found himself in Korea fighting for the US Army. Upon his return Galen began work with the Auburn Police Department where he served as a patrolman from 1954 until 1978. He retired as a Sergeant. To support his family, Galen worked the night shift for the Auburn Police Department while taking a second job delivering gas for Geiger Propane. After retiring he joined Diane at Placer Title Company as a courier.
Galen is survived by: his two daughters; Cynthia (Bob) Costa of Auburn, Calif., and Kerri (Anthony) Rondoni of Meadow Vista, Calif., grandchildren; Kristin Costa, Kaitlin (Andy) Roberts, Alexandra Rondoni, Nicholas Rondoni and great grandson; Holden Roberts. He was preceded in death by his wife Diane, and his parents; Galen and Dorothy Reinecke.
He was a great Dad, husband and provider for his family. His humor, wit and quiet stoicism will be sorely missed. The family would like to thank the staff at Auburn Creekside Villa for the wonderful care they provided Galen at the end of his life.
Please join us to celebrate the lives of Galen and Diane on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Lassila Funeral Chapel, Auburn, Calif.
