Samuel Evans Gittings Jr.(1915 - 2013)

Samuel Evans Gittings Jr.
12/11/1915 - 6/27/2013

Samuel Evans Gittings Jr. was born December 11, 1915 in Washington D.C. and died peacefully at home June 27, 2013 in Napa, Calif., at the age of 97.
He spent most of his youth in Abingdon, Virginia. It was here while in High School he met the love of his life Rose. In 1941, he moved to San Francisco and there married Rose. He served in the Army and was stationed at the hospital in Auburn, Calif. In 1946 following the service, he and Rose moved to Auburn where he taught at E.V. Cain Elementary School for 10 years. From 1957 until he retired in 1974 he taught U.S. History at Placer High School in Auburn.
He was preceded in death by Rose his life companion of nearly 80 years and his daughter Tevi Lambert. He is survived by his son Sam Gittings III, DDS, grandsons Jeff Litton and Matt Lambert (wife Jaci), and great-grandson Mac Lambert.
He was the finest of men - a true gentleman and a great dad. He was kind, thoughtful, generous, loving, forgiving, reasonable, intelligent, athletic, modest and patient - so very patient. He was dearly loved by all.
As he wished, there will be no memorial service. Condolences to the family may be left at
