Steven Edward Koehler, 74, passed away Friday, December 27, 2013 at his home in Auburn, California. He was born on May 18, 1939 in Stockton, California to Edward Adolph and Mildred Koehler.
Shortly thereafter, the family relocated to Roseville, California where Steve went to grade and middle schools in the area.
Steve spent his high school years on the "Break A Heart Ranch" in Dayton, Nevada and graduated high school there in 1958. It was on the ranch where he learned many skills required of a young man helping to keep a cattle ranch alive, especially all of the machinery and equipment typical of that era.
Steve relocated back to California in his 20's, and was soon employed by U.S. Rentals Corporation. Honing his skills there for several years, eventually led to an opportunity, and he formed a partnership which resulted in the establishment of Placer Equipment Rentals in Auburn, California, which he co-operated for 30 years.
After his retirement from there, he married Karen Oshier in 1996 in Loomis, California and was happily married until his passing. Steve and Karen are members of the Auburn Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Steve was an avid sportsman; he spent many years jeeping, hunting, fishing, and RV travel. Steve enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Steve was an excellent cook and a great host. Steve was a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 26 years, and loved by many. Steve volunteered in the community wherever he was needed, most recently at the ARC (free medical clinic) at the Auburn SDA Church.
Steve was preceded in death by his sister, Karol Mildred Talbot; half-brother, Scott Koehler: father, Edward and stepmother, DeLoris Koehler; and mother, Mildred (Koehler) Denison in that order.
Steve is survived by his spouse, Karen Koehler; son, Mark and spouse Terrie Koehler, of Farr West, Utah; daughters, Michelle and spouse Monte Mills of Pocatello, Idaho; Kim Cawdery and spouse Brian McMullin of Salt Lake City, Utah, Stacie Rose of Auburn, California; step-sister, Julia Stewart, of Ventura, California; grandchildren: Mitchell and Ali Koehler, Dylan and Jack Cawdery, and Payton (Rose) Husk. Uncle Osten Saugstad and family; brother-in-law, Joseph and spouse Sharon Talbot and family.
A memorial service will be held at the Auburn Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 12225 Rock Creek Road, Auburn, California at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014.
There will be a reception immediately following the services at the church fellowship hall.
