W. Wayne Peterson
3/18/1923 - 10/5/2013
W. Wayne Peterson, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2013 in Roseville, California. Wayne was 90 years old at the time of his passing. He was born in Corvalles, Oregon on March 18, 1923.
Wayne lived his entire life with the dignity and ethics of a true gentleman. He served his county proudly in both World War II
and Korea. He was a dedicated husband to his wife Rose for 70 years. Wayne and Rose were "partners in life" in every sense of the term. He cherished his children, three sons, their spouses and, most of all, his eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
After his service in the Navy, he began his career for Southern Pacific Railroad, retiring after 37 years. He was an active member of the local Switchman's Union #1570. He loved his fellow railroaders and loved sharing railroad stories, always with a smile on his face and a chuckle in his voice.
Wayne was known for his ability to build or repair anything from a house, from the ground up, to a fence, broken pipes, wiring, brick mailboxes, cars - the list is endless. Family and friends always knew who to call when help was needed, and he always responded willingly. Even more so, he was known for digging basements in every home he lived in or built. He literally dug them by hand and enjoyed every minute of it.
After retirement, Wayne and Rose traveled extensively. He loved the pure beauty and peacefulness of nature and enjoyed it fully. He found pleasure in each and every day.
Wayne was preceded in death by his Father, William Ray Peterson; his Mother, Ollie Pearl Peterson; and three brothers, Bernie, Skip, and Lyle Peterson. He is survived by his loving wife, Rose, his sons Wayne, Rick and Bill and their spouses (Dianne, Anita and Dianna); eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his brother, Gordon.
