Edna Erline Columbro, born April 29, 1916, in Piggott, Arkansas to Clarence and Maybelle Merydith, died at her home in Auburn, Calif., on October 10, 2013. Erline had been a resident of Auburn, Calif., since 1989, and was a member of the Pioneer United Methodist Church in Auburn, Calif. Erline taught sewing and tailoring for the San Juan Unified School District for 27 years before retiring. Erline managed a small family farm that grew hay and raised cattle in Placer County. Erline had been a member of The Order of Eastern Star since 1948 and served as Worthy Matron of Heber Chapter (181) in 1969.
Erline was a pilot and flew her own plane from her family's airstrip named Holtsman Field in Western Placer County to many places including Half-Moon Bay and Yellowstone National Park. She was a member of the Pioneer United Methodist Handbell Choir and played an organ for the United Methodist Church in Roseville.
Erline was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Holtsman of Roseville, Calif., in 1963; husband, Charles Columbro of Auburn, Calif., in 2005; daughter, Betty Bond of Columbus, Georgia; son, Ronald F. Columbro of, Georgia; brother, Dewey Merydith of Eugene, Ore.; brother, Ted Merydith of Springfield, Ore.; and nephew, Bruce Mitchell of Oregon.
Erline is survived by children: Clyde Holtsman II of Powell, Wyoming, Allen Columbro of Mariposa, Calif., Robert Columbro of Placerville, Calif.; grandchildren: Charlotte Smith of Columbus, Georgia, Michael C. Bond of Utah, Lieutenant Andrew Bond of the U.S. Navy, Janell Nielsen of Columbus, Georgia, Mark Holtsman of Rocklin, Calif., Clyde Holtsman III of Powell, Wyoming, Susan Highnote of Tampa, Florida, Kelli Columbro of Mariposa, Calif, and Nory King of Augusta, Georgia; 25 great-grandchildren;
seven great-great-grandchildren, and eight nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Pioneer United Methodist Church, 1338 Lincoln Way, Auburn, Calif., with participation by the Order of the Eastern Star. Reception will follow at the church.
