Edward Francis Gilligan Jr.

Edward Francis Gilligan Jr. was born on August 1, 1932 in Alameda, Calif., to Edward and Marie Gilligan. He passed away on July 7, 2013 at home in Auburn, Calif.
Edward graduated from Alameda High and U.C. Berkeley, where he received his teaching credential and Master's Degree. He received his Doctorate of Education from BYU.
Edward was a teacher and vice principal in Alameda. Then was a principal in Antioch for 10 years. In 1978, Edward moved to Auburn and became principal/superintendent in Newcastle. He finished off his career as superintendent of the Auburn Union School District. He was very involved in his community. He was a member of the Auburn Education Foundation, Kiwanis, Elks, CAL Alumni, SIRS, Knights of Columbus and St. Teresa's church. In his spare time, Ed loved to travel, go to the movies, shop and spend time with his family, which includes five grand-dogs.
Ed is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Maureen. He leaves behind a daughter, Kathy Chavez (Juan); son, Gary (Michael McClure); son, Kevin (Cindy); two beloved grandchildren, Sean and Sophia Gilligan and Doy Balino;, his faithful friend, and caregiver.
Visitation will be held at Lassila Funeral Home, 551 Grass Valley Highway in Auburn on Monday, July 15, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Teresa's at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 with internment at the Auburn Cemetery at 1 p.m.
