IvaNell C. May died peacefully November 26, 2010. Born April 17, 1919 to Gerhard and Isabel Burtness in Hanlontown, Iowa. Ivanell was independent and spunky. She ventured out to Long Beach, Calif., in 1942. She already had a job lined up as a Telephone Operator. She worked over 40 years in communications. IvaNell met and married James J. May (Jim), who was in the Navy at the time and was married for 50 years, until Jim passed away in 1994. They moved to Auburn, (Lake of the Pines) in 1978. Their daughter Dianne and her husband and two granddaughters were already living there. IvaNell loved to watch sports, especially golf and baseball, loved to travel, dance and read. She belonged to the Lake of the Pines Ladies 18 Hole Golf Club for many years and they belonged to the RV Club and traveled with many of the LOP'ers.
She is survived by her son, Jim May and his wife Dianne, her daughter, Dianne Williams and her husband Terry, seven grandchildren – Jodi Monas, Jeff May, Jennifer Chylewski, Greg May, Chris May and step-grandchildren, Lorne Williams and Amy Callaway. She had 17 great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lake of the Pines Clubhouse on January 8, 2011 at 12 p.m. with lunch following the service.
