John G. Martinez
1949-2013

John Genero Martinez, 63, of Auburn passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013.
John was born September 19, 1949 in Yuma, Arizona. He graduated from Kofa High School. After high school, John served in the Army, then after moving to California, attended Sac State. He was employed at Pacific Gas and Electric Company for 35 years and retired February 1st of this year. As an employee of PG&E, John was also a member of the IBEW Local 1245, of which he was a shop steward for many years. Those that knew John, knew he loved photography, a good book and a good movie; often quoting dialogue from favorite movies. When his sons were growing up, John would take them camping to Downieville in a location they fondly referred to as "star place." John's greatest obsession was his yard. He spent many weekends designing and creating a park -like setting in his back yard, and took great pride in the yard he nurtured. Christmas Eve was a favorite time for the entire family as John was known for his menudo.
John is survived by his wife, Donna; his three sons: Charles (Vanessa), Gabriel (Rose), and Danny (Tara); stepchildren: Taryn Uyeda and Kenton Alan Uyeda; his sister Yolanda (Richard); and nine wonderful grandchildren. John also is survived by stepbrother, Raymond Siquieros, and stepsisters: Anna Hansberger, Elva LaPlante, Carmen Sanchez and Helen Montablo. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. John was preceded in death by his brother, Charles, and sister, Gloria.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider becoming a donor. Whether it is a blood or organ donation, you give the gift of life when you donate.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 1 p.m. at The Ridge Golf Course in Auburn. We all know John was not one to get all dressed up; therefore we ask that you come to the celebration in your favorite jeans, shorts, t-shirt etc. It is a casual event, just the way John would have liked it.
Please join us in remembering John by signing the online guestbook at www.chapelofthehills-auburn.com.
