John Patrick Cleary

John Patrick Cleary was born May 9, 1940 in Santa Rosa, California. He graduated from high school in Porterville, California and attended San Diego State College. As an anthropology major, he worked and traveled in Mexico developing a love of the Mexican culture and arts.
John worked for the Department of Fish and Game in the early 70's. He joined state parks in 1973, beginning a long career as a State Park Ranger. His assignments were the North Coast Redwoods, Southern California beaches and in 1978 came to his last park, Auburn State Recreation Area. He retired in 1998. His love of hunting, camping and fishing never diminished.
John passed away December 12, 2012 in Coos Bay, Oregon.
He is survived by his dearly loved son Patrick, wife Mary and brothers Timothy and Michael.
A gathering of John's friends and family will be held at 1 p.m. on February 9, 2012, Granite Bay Activities Center, Folsom Lake State Recreation Area.
Donations in John's memory can be made to Save the Redwoods League or the California State Parks Foundation.
