Margaret Crawford Schlegel
7/26/1922 - 9/24/2012
Margaret started her life's journey in Ontario, Canada in 1922 and then moved to Los Angeles as a very young girl. She moved as a teenager to Grass Valley, California where she finished high school and college. She met the love of her life, Richard Schlegel, in Grass Valley as World War II was escalating. They married and after Richard served his country, and with their two small daughters, migrated to the bay area where Richard and his father established their company, Schlegel Mechanical Contractors. Four more children followed. As most of her children left "the nest", there was a move to the Monterey Peninsula.
Margaret moved to Auburn after Richard passed on to be near her daughters and return to old roots. She shown brightly as a volunteer at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, serving on the guild for many years.
She was surrounded by family, and peaceful, at the end of her very long life. She called her six children, seven grandchildren and one great grandson "the jewels in her crown."
All who knew her saw a beautiful woman both inside and out. She was patient, generous, always lending an ear and a smile.
She leaves many nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends that all adored and respected her.
Our family would like to thank Auburn Ravine Terrace skilled nursing facility and Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital for making her last days loving and comfortable.
Per Margaret's request there will be no formal service. Family has set up a memorial fund in her honor to Serra Center, a non profit organization that helped co-parent her special needs son, John. Donations may be sent to: Serra Center, 2610 Central Ave., Ste. 120, Union City, CA 94587 for the "Margaret Schlegel Memorial Fund."
