Mary Florence Smith

Mary Florence Smith, age 88 a resident of Roseville, Calif. for the past 30 years and former resident of Marin County, Calif. since 1950 died on October 22, 2010 from lung cancer.
She was a native of Stevens Point, Wisconsin (Portage County) and was born Mary Florence Slowinski on July 20, 1922 and was one of 16 children that was raised on the family farm to Stella Lewandowski and Anton Slowinski (a 1884 immigrant from Poland). Her maternal grandparents were John Lewandowski and Rosie Hoffman and her paternal grandparents were Barbara Cherniak and Michael Slowinski.
Friends will remember 'Flo" as an avid bowler where she bowled for many years at Rocklin Bowl and prior to that Nave Lanes Bowling in Novato. She loved to entertain and play card games all night long, she especially liked to play tricks on her close friends and family. Family will remember her as a devoted wife, mother, mother in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She always tended to the needs of her family and those she loved and loved playing with her beloved great grandson, 'Punkie'. She enjoyed gardening, dancing to polka music and to laugh.
Florence is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Calvin L. Smith, who passed away on May 19, 2006 and also by her brothers, Benedict, Leo, John, Aloise, Steve, Alex, Alfred; her sisters, Frances, Martie, Teri, Angie, Cecilia and Sally. She is survived by brother Roman Slowinski of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; sister Dorothy C. Ruschmann of Grand Rapids, Michigan; her two sons, Kim Brian Smith of Grass Valley, Calif., Dale R. and (Patti) Smith of Novato, and her two daughters, Sheila and (Steve) Acquaviva of Tuolumne, Calif.; Leslie and (John) Stafford of Aumsville, Ore.; her 16 grandchildren, two step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and her beloved nieces, Pam Lindstrom, Gail Schwagerl, and Betsey Zimmerman.
Florence will be missed by all those who knew her. She was an exceptional woman. Friends are welcome for visitation Saturday, October 30, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and are invited to attend services Sunday, October 31, 2010 at 1 p.m, all at PRICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 6335 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights, 916-725-2109. The burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 7101 Verner Ave., Sacramento, CA. on Monday November 1, 2010 at 9 a.m.
