Rob passed away on his birthday while battling Stage IV Metastatic Melanoma. He spent his last month in Sutter Roseville Hospital, where the staff treated him with friendship and kindness, providing him with the ultimate in medical care. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Carroll and Caroline.
He is survived by his daughters, Julie Anne Minix (Tommy Ray) and Carol Marie Leen; sister, Janice Lown (Bob); grandchildren Adante, Allanah, and Thomas; nephews, Zachary (Kimberly) and Oliver (Nicole); grandnieces, Adara and Delaney; and grandnephew, Declan. As a baby, Rob was adopted into a large, extended family, giving him an abundance of relatives - grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. His last days were spent surrounded by three favorite cousins: Rayne Highstreet, Derek Highstreet, and Denise Fischer (Rick); his sister, Jan; and many dear friends that he accumulated over his sixty-one years. He grew up in Antelope, Calif., and graduated in 1970 from Roseville High School. Rob served in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam war. He retired from the Dept. of Defense (McClellan AFB), working for over 24 years as an Avionics Technician. Rob loved to fish, preferring the outdoors over any indoor activity. He was an avid reader and always had a book within arm's reach. Always quick witted, he was prepared to tease anyone who crossed his path. During his last days, nurses, aides, and staff members came to his room to see him, many of them struggling to hold back tears. In his "rough and tumble" way, he touched many lives. Rob wanted his death to have a positive outcome, so he donated his body to the U.C. Davis School of Medicine for the advancement of medical education and research. No services will be held.
