Rudolph Robert Hennig died on Friday, February 8, 2013 in Auburn, Calif. at the age of 95.
Rudy was born on April 3, 1917 in Oakland, Calif., to parents Otto and Natalie Hennig. He called Oakland his home for the first 34 years of his life, and during that time, he owned the Oakland Venetian Blinds Co.
Rudy married the love of his life Marjorie Philips on November 10, 1938. The two remained married for the next 59 years until Marjorie passed away in 1998. In 1951 they moved their family to Auburn, Calif. In the 1950's, while raising their own children, Rudy and Marjorie were also proud foster parents. In 1960 he opened up R. Hennig Chalk and Tackboard Co. This type of work allowed Rudy to travel all over California where he helped in the process of building hundreds of schools. He kept the family business up and running for 35 years. While Rudy was known for his hard work and determination, his real passion was auto racing. He belonged to the Bay Cities Racing Association (B.C.R.A.) in the 1940's and Central State Racing Association in the 1970's. Rudy was the proud owner of midgets and modified cars. He loved being at the race track and working on these cars. His crowning achievement came in 2000, when surrounded by his family, Rudy was inducted into the B.C.R.A. Hall of Fame. Later in life Rudy loved watching NASCAR on television, often rooting for any driver who raced a Ford car.
Rudy is preceded in death by four sisters, two brothers, and one daughter, Karen Boylan. He is survived by: daughter Penny Hart, son Rick Hennig, daughter Tobi Browning, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held this Friday, February 15, 2013, at noon at the Lassila Funeral Home in Auburn, Calif. A reception will follow the service. The family and friends visitation will begin at 11 a.m.
