Waldo Rasmussen Obituary

Waldo N.
Rasmussen
1903 - 2010

Born in Portland, Oregon to Niels and Hulda Rasmussen on July 26, 1903. Passed away September 26, 2010 in Fair Oaks, California.
Waldo spent the last 10 years in Folsom and 26 of the last 35 years in the Sacramento area, which he considered home. Loving companion of Laura Chambers for the last seven years and husband to Pearl Rasmussen for 65 years. Dear father of Leona Doyle and special son-in-law, James Doyle. He was predeceased by Pearl, their son Eugene; his brother, Carroll and sister, Alta. Also feeling the great loss are his four grandchildren, Linda and Steve (Kathy) Rasmussen, Greg (Debbie) and Gary Barnes: great-grandchildren Joe and Amanda Barnes. Daughter-in-law, Jan Parish, along with step-grandchildren, Tawnya (Ed) Mitchell and Steve (Lesley) Doyle; step-great-grandchildren, Alexandria and Taylor Doyle, Jared and Grace Mitchell.
Waldo's family moved often in his early years from Oregon to Minnesota, Kansas, Florida and Arkansas. In Arkansas he met and married Pearl. He saw World War I (too young to go), World War II (too old and with a hearing disability) he spent the war years working in shipyards in California and Washington. After World War II he moved his family back to Arkansas and opened a neighborhood grocery store. In the early 50's on to California where he worked in sales (mostly health related items) until he became an integral part of a local cemetery in Hayward. Retiring from General Manager in 1968 he has continued to study and read about nutrition and health for the past 42 years and tried to live by what he believed. "Eat to Live, do not Live to Eat". Waldo's 107 years proved his theory to be valid and up until the last couple of days touched the lives of those doctors, nurses and aids that were fortunate enough to meet him.
Waldo spent his early years in the creamery and dairy business and learned that the better you feed your cattle the better they performed and why would you not do the same for your own body and give yourself the same advantage with proper diet. He lived that belief and passed it on to his family and friends.
Waldo was a charismatic, caring and very intelligent gentleman, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was always trying to change the world and those around him for the better.
Inurnment will be at the place he helped to build; Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park, Hayward, CA.

I knew Waldo from Park Folsom. He was a wonderful man. Always happy and so active. I used to get a kick out of seeing him push a wheelchair around with mail on the seat.( I never saw him in it.) I will miss seeing and speaking with him. Condolences to all who knew and loved him.
