Liz passed away peacefully on Monday, November 26, 2012 at the age of 81. Born in Indiana on January 4, 1931, she moved as a child to Detroit, Mich., where she graduated from McKenzie HS and Wayne State University with a BS in Nursing. She worked as a pediatric nurse until her marriage to Herbert Russell in 1956. They resided in Germany and then around the US living in Texas, South Carolina and California. After raising her children she worked as a Special Education Aid for the Placer Office of Education where she enjoyed working with and teaching children. Liz enjoyed the theater, camping and hiking, the mountains, and was an avid seamstress and quilter, winning many awards throughout her lifetime. She was an active volunteer in the community at the Roseville Arts Center, Centerpoint Community Church, and the South Placer FD Rescue Squad. Liz lived in Granite Bay from 1975 until her death.
Preceded in death by her husband, Herbert L. Russell in 1981, infant daughter Ann, and parents Henry and Bertha Edris. Survived by her children: Laurie (Lawrence) Bettencourt and Henry (Robin) Russell; and grandchildren: Russell, Caitlyn and Ty Bettencourt; Jessica O'Brien and Jake Russell.
Celebration of Life Saturday, December 8, 11 a.m. Centerpoint Community Church Chapel, 515 Sunrise Ave., Roseville. Internment Monday, December 10, 10 a.m. East Lawn Cemetery, 5757 Greenback Ln., Sacramento. Liz was a life-long dog lover and appreciated the services of the Sutter Hospice Therapy Dog Program (WAGS).
