Donald (Don) Robert Pierce
The Guest Book is expired.
Donald (Don) Robert Pierce passed peacefully in his home December 3, 2012, with loving family and friends at his side.
Don was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harmon Pierce and Ethel Pollack Pierce; brother, Leigh Pierce; sister, Lewena Pierce; Eula Pierce Silvers; Lida Pierce Trant; his first wife, Irene Pierce; and grandson, Robert Vargas.
Don's immediate family that survives him are his wife, Virginia Pierce; daughter, Eula Lagow; granddaughter, Carlotta Lisa Vargas; step-sons, Bill (and wife Claudia) and Jim Sciaroni; grandchildren, Rose and Sierra Sciaroni; and his three great-grand-sons, Joseph, Larry and Robert. Don had a very special relationship with his nephews, Bill Wolf and Don Trant. He leaves behind many other loving nieces and nephews.
The family left Iowa when Don was five years old at the insistence of their family doctor, due to Don's recurring pneumonia, and came to Sacramento where several cousins had blazed the trail West before them.
Don had varied careers, including that of an operating engineer #3, dairy farmer, lineman, rodeo rider and rancher.
Don was a charter member of the Themaland's Sportsman's Club, an active member of the Thermaland's Community outside of Lincoln, a board member of the Placer County Fair, and a member of the junior livestock committee. Don could always be counted on to be a helpful friend whenever needed.
Virginia Pierce and the family wish to thank and acknowledge the many loving friends and caretakers who were so devoted to taking care of Don in the last period of his life. Those include Duane and Betty Gardner, Craig and Shelly Jorgensen, Mike and Becky Whitney, Donald and Colleen Trant, Mike and Laura Ross and too numerous others to name. The family also wishes to thank and acknowledge the love and devotion provided to Don and Virginia by Viola Vulaca, who was Don's caretaker during the last stage of his life.
The burial service will be held in December and will be private.
The celebration of Don's life will be held at The Pavilion at McBean Park in Lincoln on Friday January 11, 2012 at 11:30 a.m.
Remembrances in Don's name to Sutter Roseville Hospice or Thermalands Sportsman's Club, the later which has established a scholarship in Don's name.
