Jimmy Simmons

Jimmy R. Simmons, known to most as "Papa," left this world on February 28th, 2013. He was born on February 21, 1931 in Quentin, Oklahoma, 24 minutes after his twin brother, Jack. They were the fourth and fifth born of ten children to Allian "Al" Levoy and Maude Simmons, and the first set of three sets of twins. After attending school, he joined the Air Force in 1947 and served for six years in Guam and Okinawa.
Upon his return to the United States, he met the love of his life, Jean McClellan. They married on February 20, 1954, and in January of 1955 welcomed their first child, Terry. The second child, Jimmy, arrived in April of 1956, followed by Jack in March of 1957. Jim and Jean worked and raised the family in southern California, relocating to northern California in 1975. Papa continued his work as an Operating Engineer for a full fifty years, grading and paving his way throughout jobs in California. He retired in 1991 to three acres of heaven where he and Jean raised chickens, cows, rabbits, goats, and bushels of produce; Jim played music on his guitars, and they made many loving memories with children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Survivors of Papa include: his wife of 59 years, Jean; his three children and their spouses, Terry (Tim) Brueckner, Jim (Adena) Simmons, and Jack (Andrea) Simmons; five grandchildren Julie Bryan (Scott), Jessica Brenden (Mark), Shane Simmons (Jessica), Amanda McReynolds, and Kate Heinlein (Pete); seven great grandchildren Alexa, Cole, Nora, Blake, Brock, Audrey, and Charlie; brothers Ray, Gene, Paul, and Jack, and many loving friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Aubrey; sisters Louise, Sandy, and Jody; and his grandson, Wade Simmons. We will miss you, Papa, but we know you are in good company.
Services will be held on March 16th at 10:00 a.m. at the Auburn First Assembly of God Church, at 4200 Grass Valley Hwy in Auburn.
