Benjamin McCarter

BENJAMIN MCCARTER, 31 ROCKFORD - Benjamin McCarter, 31, died on June 17, 2013, in Kenosha, WI. Ben was born in Rockford, IL, and grew up in the Stillman Valley, IL area. Ben is survived by his parents, Tim McCarter of Kenosha, WI and Susan (Jim) Foster of Mendota, IL; brother, Steven McCarter of Rockford, IL; and 5 step brothers and sisters. He is predeceased in death by all his grandparents, Earl and Yvonne McCarter and Donald and Margaret Baker. He graduated from Rock Valley College with an Airframe and Powerplant degree and was working on an engineering degree. From 2001 to 2006, he worked at Pride Aircraft in Rockford IL, and in 2008, worked for Newman Hass Racing Team traveling as a pit crew member and engineer for Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Gang Dallara Indy Car driven by Graham Rahal. In 2010, he worked at Amphib, Inc in Kenosha, WI, restoring a private collection of vintage aircraft, in 2010 to 2012, he was employed by Sanders Aeronautics rebuilding a British Hawker Sea Fury "Furias" to race in the unlimited class at the Reno Air Races. Ben loved fast cars and faster airplanes, but also science, history, the arts, movies and had a special place in his heart for rescue dogs. He had a passion for books and never tired of reading and learning. He got his private pilot's license in 2011, and loved to fly and had a competition driving license in the Midwest Council of Sports Car Club. He traveled to France, Germany, Costa Rica, and the Netherlands. We will never forget his charming smile and his desire to never stop learning new things. A celebration of life memorial service will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, July 14, with a short service at 8 p.m. in the Burpee Museum Mahlburg Room, 737 N. Main St., Rockford, IL 61103.
