BESSIE OLIVIA HAFFENDEN, 96 BELVIDERE - Bessie Olivia Haffenden, 96, of Belvidere died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Maplecrest Care Centre, surrounded by her family. Born Aug. 11, 1916, in Steward, daughter of Herman and Dorothy (Gulley) Smith. Married Glenn Haffenden on July 27, 1954, in Oregon, Ill. Member of First Presbyterian Church, Loyal Order of Women of the Moose of Belvidere Chapter 1052 and John Hugo Kaiser Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1461 Auxiliary. Worked for the Oregon Piano Factory, the dietary department of Highland Hospital for 15 years, and Weiman's Furniture Company in Rockford for 13 years. Survived by daughter, Judy (James) Rygh of Elma, Wash.; son, Wayne (Linda) Schier of Machesney Park; grandchildren, Steven, Sharee and Eric Schier, Robert and Thomas Jones; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Robbie, Morgan, Joshua, Emma, Erin, Gregory, Nathan, Chanise, Eli and Alyssa; great-great-grandchildren, Jackson, Machenzie and JD. Predeceased by parents; husband, Glenn; granddaughter, Debbie Jones; and sister, Ruby Dakin. Funeral at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Kopp, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Private burial in Scandinavian Cemetery in Rockford. Memorials may be given to the family.
