Dennis Larson(1944 - 2013)

DENNIS RAY LARSON, 69 ROCKFORD - Dennis Ray Larson, 69, of Rockford died Saturday, August 24, 2013, at Rockford Memorial Hospital, after a long illness. He was born on January 14, 1944, to Harold and Lucille (Clancy) Larson. He graduated from East High School in 1962, and received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Rockford College in 1969. He married Diane Schaetzel on July 15, 1972, in Rockton. Dennis worked as a counselor at the H. Douglas Singer Mental Health for over ten years, and he earned a Master's degree in Community Mental Health from Northern Illinois University while working there. After leaving Singer, he returned to Northern Illinois University where he earned a Master of Business Administration Degree. He worked as the Business Manager at Al-Care, a treatment facility for alcoholics, for several years and then took a position in the Cost Accounting Department at the Taylor Company in Rockton. He thoroughly enjoyed working at Taylor. He worked there for over twenty years, retiring in April 2013, because of his health. Dennis was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who put the needs of his family ahead of his own. He was an avid reader and had a wonderful, dry sense of humor. Dennis is lovingly survived by his wife, Diane; daughter, Jennifer (Patrick) Donovan of Ames, Iowa; son, Michael of Rockford; grandson, Francis Donovan of Ames, Iowa; sisters, Christine (Michael) Shay of Hinsdale and Judith Haven of Aurora; brothers, Ronald of Riverside, Calif., and David (Daveda) of Saugas, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Lucille; father, Harold; step-mother, Lorraine; and sister, Karen Killy. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2013, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 2nd Ave., with Major Steve Merritt officiating. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013, in the Fred C. Olson Chapel. Memorials to Northern Public Radio, 801 N. First St., DeKalb, IL 60115.
